Billy Rios
Billy B. Rios Aguilar, born in Huajicori Nayarit, Mexico, is an Indy based artist that primarily works with printmaking mediums such as silkscreen, lithography and etching. Billy first became interested in art by seeing doodles from his mom that she would do for him and his siblings. Being the only member of his family who’s actively pursuing an art career, Billy’s art centered around his family tradition of fishing, pollution, and the malpractice of overfishing that damages our oceans.
Billy has recently participated in art markets, such as the markets held at Herron School of Art, as well as his senior thesis show held at Herron. A three week group show that featured Billy’s art along with his graduating peers. This show was important to Billy as it was a sign of the progress he made during the early stages of his art career but it also opened him to new connections in the art world.
In the future, Billy plans to keep working with printmaking as it is one of his main ways of making art. He favors it because he can produce many copies of the same Design and also because he has fallen in love with the process, whether it be lithography or etching.
