Henry A. Garcia is a self-taught artist from Indianapolis who creates surprisingly detailed drawings using dry erase markers. His practice began in a call center, where access to traditional art supplies was limited, so he improvised — working with a small whiteboard and a thumbtack to draw the animals he felt deeply connected to. Art became his way of finding freedom and purpose beyond his immediate surroundings.

His work speaks to what's possible when creativity meets constraint. The impermanence of dry erase materials isn't incidental — Though the impermanent nature of his materials has led some viewers to question the longevity of the work, Garcia reframes this concern toward the preservation of his subjects themselves—animals whose survival remains uncertain.l.

Garcia has shown his work at respected regional venues including the Indiana State Museum, the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, and the Harrison Center
